Overview

As a Books.by author, your royalty report provides a comprehensive breakdown of your earnings from book sales. This guide explains each component of your royalty report to help you better understand how your royalties are calculated.

Accessing Detailed Order Information

Did you know? You can view the complete breakdown of any sale by clicking on the order number in your royalty report. This gives you access to:

  • Full sales revenue details

  • Itemized printing costs

  • Fulfillment expenses

  • Overall profit calculation

Key Components of Your Royalty Report

Order Total

This represents the complete amount paid by the customer and includes:

  • The retail price you set for your book

  • Any shipping costs charged to the customer

Product Costs

This line item covers the actual costs to print your book, which may vary based on:

  • Page count

  • Print specifications

  • Book format (hardcover, paperback, etc.)

  • Special features (color pages, premium paper, etc.)

Fulfillment Costs

This section represents all expenses related to processing and delivering the order:

  • Shipping fees to deliver the book to the customer

  • Handling costs for packaging materials and labor

  • Bank transaction fees associated with processing the payment

Transaction Fee

The Transaction Fee outlined on your royalty statement is the sum of credit card and payment gateway fees incurred in processing the sale of your book. These fees may change depending on the card and currency used by the customer.

For a typical US credit card payment, the transaction fee would be:

  • 2.9% of the transaction amount + $0.30 flat fee

How Your Royalty Is Calculated

Your total royalty is determined using this formula:

CopyTotal Royalty = Order Total - Customer Discounts - Product Costs - Fulfillment Costs

Example Calculation:

  • Order Total: $25.00 (book price + shipping paid by customer)

  • Customer Discount: $2.50 (promotional code used)

  • Product Costs: $8.75 (printing costs)

  • Fulfillment Costs: $3.75 (shipping, handling, transaction fees)

CopyTotal Royalty = $25.00 - $2.50 - $8.75 - $3.75 = $10.00

Your Earnings

At Books.by, you receive 100% of the net royalty calculated above. We don't take any additional percentage or commission from your earnings.
